– Richard Floyd Turnbaugh (1932-2016)
On Sunday, May 8, 2016, Richard (Dick) Floyd Turnbaugh (84) returned to his Lord. Dick was born on February 17, 1932 in Boise, Idaho to Floyd and Dora Turnbaugh. When he was young, Dick moved with his family to Southern Oregon. He graduated from Phoenix High School in 1950. Dick served in the U.S. Army on the front line during the Korean War until the armistice in July 1953, and then served in the 187th Airborne, earning an honorable discharge in 1954.
Dick worked in the lumber industry until his retirement. He was a member of the Lions Club, serving for many years in the civic and charitable works of the organization. He was also a member of the American Legion. After serving a number of years on the City of Talent Planning Commission, Dick was elected Mayor of the City of Talent, serving from 1977 to 1978.
Dick was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, water skiing, RVing and ocean watching, especially along the Oregon Coast. He was also a member of a local sports car club for many years, winning trophies in many races.
Dick is survived by his wife of 45 years, Phyllis, his three stepchildren, Kenneth Lewis, Kim Walker (Terry), and Kelly Lewis (Sheena), his brother Donald (Lynette) and two nephews (Donald and James), as well as seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 13, 2016 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2201 N. Phoenix Road, Medford, Oregon, 97504.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Dove Ministries or Disabled American Veterans.
